Dr. Layckan van Gensen played a key role in the planning and execution of the 2024 SU Sports Law Conference at the University of Stellenbosch. In addition to her organizational contributions, she served as a panelist, offering expert insight into “sponsorship and the commercialisation of intellectual property in professional sport”.

Her participation added depth to discussions on how legal frameworks intersect with commercial opportunities in sport, highlighting strategies to protect athletes’ economic and intellectual property rights.

The Hague 2024

Dr. Layckan van Gensen was a distinguished panelist at the International Sports Law Journal (ISLJ) Conference held in The Hague in 2024, where she addressed Past and Future Challenges at the Olympic Games. At the conference, she presented an academic paper focusing on the economic rights of athletes participating in the Olympic Games, highlighting key issues related to remunerating the Olympians who participated at the Olympic Games.

Her presentation underscored the evolving legal and commercial landscape of international sport and the importance of ensuring that athletes are informed and empowered to exercise their economic rights on the global stage.
